This work was part of my postdoctoral research and is now completed. Please refer to the specific details below.
Overview
This research focuses on the capabilities of the Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) for assimilating high-resolution radar observations at convective scales.
In collaboration with Chris Snyder and David Dowell, I conducted a comprehensive multi-case assessment to quantify how well the EnKF could initialize various storm types—ranging from supercells to squall lines—using real-world WSR-88D data. This work was critical in demonstrating that EnKF could robustly handle complex, non-linear convective dynamics outside of “perfect model” experiments.
